Slightly misleading title, but indulge me.
I'm a little disturbed by the recent "televised debates" in the UK...not because I have anything in particular against any of the participants (how could I, I'm a dumb Amurkan), but because it seems to be a move towards electing personalities and not policies.
For years, I've admired UK politics because, depsite the fact that each party has its own "face" such as Cameron, Clegg, Brown, Pearson, Griffin, etc., the voters appear to vote for a party and their policies as opposed to the particular person acting as it's head at the given moment. Now, I don't reside in the UK, so maybe I'm off the mark with that particular assessment. Anyway...
...here in the US, its a bit different. We elect the President, sadly, as much on how much we like them as a person as we do their policies. Bad juju, IMO. Regardless, that's they way its been done ever since the first televised debate between Nixon and someone I cannot remember.
Anyone else think this is bad move on the part of Parliament?
